I was listening to a song on the radio that started out "If you were mine" and I thought it was supposed to be a song from God to us ...and it turned out not to be, so I felt like I had to fix that. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't work with the tune, but this is what came out.

So... in an effort to refine Roleplay and get some feedback on other stuff that I may eventually write, I think I shall open up a fictionpress account. This may or may not be a good idea, but we'll see. When evaluating the "good idea" status, I mean that:
1. I probably won't be very consistent about posting at all, as real life has its insatiable demands (I mean, I'm a rocket scientist, right?),
2. my work may not get read by people who are not young female adolescents seeking to project fantasies involving their own lives into fiction, and
3. reading and reviewing requires reciprocation.

I'm also taking down the story from this site, chapter by chapter, so that I can actually do revision.

The spectre of Jason Bourne is also hanging rather insistently over my shoulder (guess what I've been reading this Christmas?) and I may have to do something about that at some point.

In December 2007, I was challenged to a - story-off, I suppose you might say. I think this was based on something I randomly suggested over the phone; nevertheless, I finally have produced a response. For those interested parties, here are the links:

Summer is finally here and school is not eating my life! This calls for celebration.
Part of said celebration will include reading much fiction to get that side of my brain working again. I have two major projects this summer (working titles both):

Roleplay - finish the novel! (It's so close and I know what's going to happen; I need to get back into the right mentality and sit down to type it out.)
Awaken the Dawn - this is a short, novella type of story for fanfic.net. I have six chapters written and need to figure out where I want it to go/what will happen/if it needs rewriting. It's based on Josepha Sherman and Susan Schartz's Vulcan's Forge, and focuses on the supporting character David Rabin. The book alludes to his survival training in the Negev - which I fell in love with. The desert, I mean. The survival part has triggered some interesting research. And I need to figure out how much space to give Nechama Rabin. She might actually warrant a story of her own.

As always, thoughts, comments, or suggestions are welcome.

One of the reasons I'm posting this is so that I can have something to show for my horrific waste of time last night. And the other is because I want to rant and get this out of my system.

To get to the point: I read Stephenie Meyer's partial draft of Midnight Sun last night.

For those (like myself) not caught up in the current fangirl craze - namely, the Twilight series - here's an explanation. The Harry Potter fans have moved on to vampires, of the immortal, bloodsucking type. (This seems to be the only type there is, actually. I'm not terribly knowledgeable about the horror canon. I prefer not to be.) There are four books in the series, and then this partial draft, which is a retelling of the first book, Twilight. Yes, this is the one with the movie and the hype. Apparently some jerk got hold of the draft and posted it online, so the author gave it up and posted the draft, which will now most likely not be published.

This shortfic is for Melda. It feels like it could be the base for a much bigger plot; this is just a sketch, maybe for future work.

So... I had to do a short for a creative writing final, and I started out with this vague idea of a soldier in a spaceship randomly sitting somewhere and writing, having nothing better to do. It went on from there, and then I realized that what I was writing actually fit in the framework of BSG. It also started out with hope as a general theme, but then suddenly the whole 'new Eden' thing came in, and developed from there into the whole 'hope of heaven' idea. All going to say: I posted it on ff.net, here. Take a look and tell me what you think! One-shot, short.

 This is where I'm posting my NaNoWriMo 2007 novel - hardcore scifi, yeah! I don't know how long I'll keep it up, though. After it's finished I may use this for other things....
